Ms Manley has asked for PSP to post this request on our website for all parents who are interested in helping to build up the International identity of the school.
This is her letter to you:
I would like to invite parents to consider being a representative on the International Committee.
The aim of the Committee is to further enhance and develop our identity as an International School and it will take the lead in shaping thinking and policy. This Committee will comprise representatives from all our stakeholders – teachers, students, parents, the Methodist Church and Board. Meetings will take place approximately three times a term.
If you are interested in supporting this key area of development within our school or would like further information, please contact Ms. Kathleen Manley, Vice Principal (Academic).
A series of Saturday morning informal coffee meetings will be held beginning on Saturday, 10 May at 11:00 a.m.
The first of these meetings is aimed at providing parents with a clear picture of our academic monitoring and tracking processes.
If you are interested in attending this short meeting, please contact Mrs. Tan Eng Neo, at executive.secretary@acsinternational.com.sg (secretary to Miss Manley), giving your name and contact details.

As parents, we know what is right and wrong and how to steer clear from breaking the law, but how much do we know (legally speaking) to guide our teens in their daily behavior? In today's fast-paced world of smses, high-speed broadband and mp3s / video downloads, can you recognize the fine line between what is legal and what is not? What are the penalties and how do the Singapore Courts view and deal with such behavior?
Just as important, what if our kids were being bullied by others or are solicited by gangs? What are their rights and how would they go about protecting themselves? With promiscuity being more prevalent, what about underaged sex, substance-abuse etc? What are the legal implications that affect both local and foreign students, or if they so happen to be in the presence of such activities.
Date: 24th April 2008 Topic: YOUR TEEN AND THE LAW by Ms. Melanie Ho, Singapore Association of Women Lawyers Time: Coffee and light refreshments 8.15 – 8.30am, Talk begins at 8.30am sharp to 11am Venue: Conference Room (administrative office block), ACS International RSVP: Limited seating; so it's "First come, first served"! Her talk was very relevant and enlightening and have we have requested for her to revisit some of these issues with us again. Melanie has kindly offered to cover these and any other concerns that you wish to raise during the discussion.
A group of enthused parents have come together to create a Tea Party for all Year 1 students. Besides the great high tea, we intend to employ light educational devices to give the students an overview of Edward de Bono’s Theory of the 6 Thinking Hats, as well as a brief history of famous people and their hats, e.g. Napoleon etc.
Older students will help PSP coordinate the event and entertain the Year 1 students. There will be live bands and music, slide shows and games.
Although the aim is get the students to gel with one another, we hope that parents of Year 1 students would take this opportunity to join your children for their Tea Party from 4:30 pm onwards. This is a suitable chance for you to get to know your child's friends and vice-versa.
Event: Mad Hatter's Tea Party
Venue: ACS (International) School Hall
Date: Monday 31th March 2008
